The peace initiatives by the Kwara State Government at establishing a lasting solution to the perennial communal violence between the neighboring communities of Offa and Erin-ile in Offa and Oyun Local Government Areas of Kwara State is gradually yielding positive results.
This remark was made by the new Sole Administrator of Oyun Local Government Area, Alh. Gidado Babatunde Bello last Monday, in an interview with The Herald at his office in Ilemona.
Bello stated that The Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba AbdulGaniyu Ibrahim, and many prominent individuals of Erin-Ile community are cooperating with him in reaching a lasting peaceful solution to the crisis.
He stated further that the Erin-Ile progressive Union has also been very supportive in the drive to attain peace, adding that it is natural for the people of the two communities to still live with some measure of apprehension, but expressed satisfaction in the security situation in the community.
Bello, also stated that he was working closely with his counterpart in Offa to sustain the government’s measure at arriving at a lasting solution to the communal violence, adding that the state Governor, Dr AbdulFatah Ahmed, has been very supportive in seeing that there is no compromise to full restoration of peace in the affected areas.
He said their mandate as Sole Administrators was in tandem with the objective of creating an enabling environment for a lasting solution to the crisis.
He expressed satisfaction with the cooperation of the members of staff of the council and promised to do his best in encouraging a good working environment that would enhance productivity within the system.
Bello is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University and a Director in the Kwara State Civil Service.
