Nassarawa PDP Throws Weight Behind Makarfi-Led Faction

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its weight behind the Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee at the national level of the party.
Mr Francis Orogu, its chairman, told newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia that stakeholders of the party had met at an expanded executive session, and resolved to support the Makarfi leadership.
“The stakeholders expressed their respect to the Appeal Court judgment that recognised the leadership of Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, but resolved to await the decision of the Supreme Court on the dispute,” he said.
He rejected suggestions that the party had torn into factions.
“There are no factions; all organs of the party – the forum of state party chairmen, board of trustee, governors, National Assembly caucus and youth wing, are all on the same page.
“All these key groups and other stakeholders have resolved to approach the apex court overt the issue. This is being handled peacefully. So, you can see that we all know what we want and where we are going,” Orogu said.
He said that the organs of the party were united and focused toward ending the disagreement, and declared that PDP would emerge much stronger after the impasse.
On preparations for future elections,  Orogu that said that the party had resolved to adopt “the principle of power rotation and zoning”.
“The factors that led to our poor performance in 2011 and 2015 are being addressed to ensure that we reclaim Nasarawa State in 2019.
“To get it right this time, we have resolved to zone the positions to areas adjudged to be `politically and morally correct’.
“We shall no longer allow `moles’, sponsored by the ruling party, to pick up our nomination forms only to turn round and fight against PDP’s interest,” he said.
