The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday failed to resolve the crisis ravaging its Kwara State chapter.

The two warring factions in the state led by Sunday Fagbemi and Iyola Oyedepo were summoned by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee in order to broker peace, but the peace move failed.
Some of the stakeholders at the meeting walked out and were seen discussing angrily while others hurriedly left the PDP secretariat premises.

Former Minister of National Planning, Dr. Suleiman Abubakar who attended the meeting referred newsmen to Senator S‎uleiman Ajadi, who angrily refused to speak on the issue.

But Daily Trust gathered that one of the factions was objecting to fresh congresses as ordered by the Non-Elective National Convention of August 12.

Chairman of the caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi had expressed worry over the inability of ‎the two factions to resolve their differences.

Makarfi who addressed the stakeholders before the meeting went into a closed-door session said that Kwara was the only state where the party was still having problems.

“We have four states that we already have submissions from them based on the resolutions passed and approved by the convention.

“All sides to the conflict in these states jointly signed and made a submission in the overall interest of the party. Of all the seven states, we have four already and the others will conclude after the Sallah holidays.

‎”The earlier people put their heads together then they can be in a greater position to have, no matter the kind of influx, overwhelming control of political events.

“We have delayed because of influx of people joining the party and they want accommodation.

So, what we want is not just people who are in PDP to reconcile and move forward, we also have influx of people wanting to join the party. And nobody will wait for any particular person,” Makarfi said.

The‎ August 12 non-elective National Convention of the party dissolved the Kwara State factional executives alongside six other states of ‎Adamawa, Borno, Kebbi, Lagos, Osun and Ogun and mandated the caretaker committee to ‎conduct fresh congresses in those states.
